Winter Stadium Trip!

Last year, I took a successful quick stadium trip to Rhode Island in mid-February and I was hoping to do the same this  year. The weather is looking OK for me to get out of work for a few days, so I’m off to a three stadium in two day adventure with basketball the focus. My initial plan was to head back down to Norfolk for an AHL Admirals game followed by an Old Dominion/Norfolk State doubleheader. But given how I can’t make my plans until a few days out due to work, I waited too long for ODU tickets as they are playing rivals VCU and tickets became impossible to get as I exhausted all resources. So another option was to head back to Eastern Ohio with a trip highlighted by a couple of MAC games and teams that I’m really looking forward to seeing. I’ll be heading out Friday with the first game coming in a league I’ll be seeing for the first time: the NBDL. I’m looking forward to checking out the Canton Charge at the old Civic Center in town. Then I’ll head a half-hour north on Saturday for a doubleheader with a couple MAC teams. Kent State has a late morning game against Ball State and then later that evening and only 10 miles to the Southwest, the rival Akron Zips will be in action against Northern Illinois. The weather may get a little dicey Friday Evening/parts of Saturday with snow squalls, so hopefully those don’t cause too much of a problem on my travels. Otherwise, should be a great time in each of the three places and by the end of the trip, I’ll have seen all the facilities on The List in Akron.

  1. Have fun Sean…sounds like another great trip. I think you’ll enjoy both of the MAC venues, although I found both to be pretty warm when there’s a full house, so even though it may be cold outside, make sue you have layers in case you get hot.

Be sure to walk around the campus of Kent State. Unfortunately when I was there it was pouring rain so I didn’t have a chance to get many pictures of some of the artwork you’ll find around campus, nor some of the historic spots.
