Going to Meet Citi Field

In 2003-2004, I made the Yankee Stadium – Shea Stadium visits and now seven years later it’s time to return and see the new digs for the Mets and Yankees. This time around, I’m a lot closer to New York City…but I’m still going to do the same thing, just in reverse order: Citi Field this year and then Yankee Stadium II next year. This Sunday, I will be out in Flushing to take in all the sights and sounds at the Mets’ new digs. The team is coming off of a pitiful West Coast Road trip going 2-9, so we’ll see how cranky their fans may be if the skid continues. The sport of choice in the New York City area (in my opinion) is baseball and there are some extremely knowledgable and passionate fans here.

I’m hoping we can keep the rain away for Sunday’s game as it’s going to be a close call. A couple things going in my favor: it’s the last game against Arizona this year, so I’m sure they will do everything in their power to get this game in. Plus the D-backs only come back East two more times this year (Pittsburgh and Washington) and I’m sure they wouldn’t want to fill their Monday off day heading to New York to play or finish a game…then fly back to Phoenix for their Tuesday game. So, if it rains…I’m hoping they’ll still try to squeeze it in.

Also, preceding the game will be the Mets Hall of Fame induction day with Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry taking part in the ceremony. Should be fun!
