It is rare that we are able to hit the road to see multiple stadiums in successive months, but with the Memorial Day Weekend, the timing is perfect for a little road trip. Last year, around this time we took a beautiful journey up to Northern New England and were able to see Hadlock Field in Portland, ME and Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, NH. I considered heading back to the area for a different ballpark and the hope of seeing Manchester’s arena in use for the AHL Calder Cup Finals (they fell short to Hershey 4-2). Instead, we’ll head in the other direction on I-95, down to Virginia.
Two, maybe three stadiums are on tap. First, is a visit to the Richmond Coliseum Saturday Night to see some indoor football as the Richmond Raiders take on the Baltimore Mariners. After a couple days in Williamsburg, VA, we’ll head an hour West again back to Richmond to see the Eastern League’s newest team, the Richmond Flying Squirrels in action at The Diamond. Lastly, on our way home, we may stop at Bowie, MD to check out Prince George’s Stadium. For the most part, weather shouldn’t be an issue for the outdoor stuff…however Tuesday may get dicey late in the afternoon and evening with some storms, but that’s still a good five days out and I’ll take a more thorough look on Sunday.
Things get a little busy when we get back, so I may not have the website updated until late week or the weekend. Enjoy the long weekend!
